Plumbing

Our home is a safe place. It is where we unwind and recuperate before going out into the world to face its challenges once more. Therefore, it is only right that everything about our home should provide us with as much comfort as possible. Ideally, it should be clean.

It should have all the amenities we need. And it everything should we in proper working condition. For this reason, it is imperative that we keep up with the upkeep of our dwelling.

This means doing our daily and weekly chores, ensuring that the essential appliances are working properly, and even our plumbing is well maintained.

It is easy enough to forget our home’s sewer system because it is unseen and buried. But we forget that it too, like cars and home appliances, needs regular maintenance. A job like this cannot be relegated to a family member, however.

It requires a high degree of skill and experience in order to be done right, not to mention it involves a lot of manual labor. A job such as maintaining the plumbing should be left to a professional.

But what is the point of a regular checkup? Can’t we just call a plumber when the drain or toilet is clogged? Both relevant questions so here are some reasons why it is important to have an annual plumbing check.

Plumbing

1. Leaks

We all know how much of a hassle leaks can be. A leak at home could mean being unable to shower while having to shell out valuable resources and time to leaks fixed. What most people don’t know is that leaks can happen without us even knowing. Unbeknownst to us, a hot water pipe might have developed a crack and has constantly been leaking water.

Leaks, especially those that you know nothing about could be costing you money. Hiring a professional to check all the tubes and pipes around the house could save you thousands of dollars in wasted water.

2. Preventive Measures

Most of the pipes we have at home are made from metal, and metal corrodes over time. Due to water and temperature exposure tubes eventually, develop weak points due to rust or physical damage.

If this is left to rot, could lead to a burst pipe, uncontrolled water damage, and even compromise the house which will, in turn, cause more money than just paying for regular maintenance. A plumber is trained to determine which parts of the sewer system needs replacing to ensure it continues to work well; if not a burst pipe.

3. Clog Prevention

The clogs that quite often happen in the drains of toilets and sinks don’t just happen instantly. In most cases, they result from an accumulation of gunk, grime, and common food particles over the years. When left unchecked and untreated, a block that accumulated over a long period of time could even be harder to remove than an instantaneous one.

This is another problem that an annual check-up by a plumber could mitigate ahead of time. Immediate action can be done before this gunk hardens enough that it would be too difficult to remove.

4. Fungi Outbreak

Did you know that the inside of pipes could harbor molds? These molds can proliferate without you even knowing, and it can spread unchecked to all your pipes. Unlike plants, molds don’t need sunlight to grow. All they need is somewhere they can have access to nutrients and where it is always moist.

Certain types of molds release spores into the atmosphere which have been proven harmful to the health of humans. An experienced plumber could diagnose their existence immediately and perform measures to prevent their spread and ultimately remove them altogether.

5. Necessary Upgrades

Technology has only ever taken great strides in recent years. This means new and improved products for us with better and cost-saving features. While upgrading can be seen as an unnecessary cost for replacing something that’s working perfectly fine, it could also prove to be a huge saving in the long run.

There are new hot water systems now that use less gas. New toilets are available that allows you to save on water. A qualified plumber can determine which systems and appliances need to be swapped for new ones and they could even recommend the best brands to buy.

6. Correct Wrong Habits

Annual checkup of sewer lines is not only aimed to prevent future problems from occurring. Being an expert and experienced professional, a plumber can also give suggestions and tips on how you, as a homeowner, could do daily things to prolong the life of the plumbing at home or stop practices that are unknowingly causing harm to tubes and appliances.

This might mean undoing existing habits that are harmful and starting new ones that could help maintain the integrity of your sewer system.

Plumbers don’t just perform drain clog removal and repair as is commonly thought of. They also assess the condition of our plumbing, give advice on what to do about it, and ensure that our homes have a well-functioning plumbing and sewer system.
