Your living room needs more attention than any other rooms in the house because that’s where you are likely to spend most of your time.

The living room is where you will have your family time, is where you will host your guests, and it sets the tone of all the pictures you are going to take in the room.

Many people struggle to create a modern looking living room. They simply do not understand the space and dump furniture at every corner. So, here are a few ideas to keep it simple, yet modern:

These days, decorative home lighting is in fashion. For example floor lamps, table lamps, inside-wall lamps etc. Adding a floor lamp to your living room can make it look modern.

You can choose from a variety of designs. However, you have to make sure to find the right floor lamp, and it can be done by considering the space available and other furniture.

4. Decorative cushion covers

Decorative cushion covers add life to your sofa, by doing so to your living room. It not only provides comfort but also defines the mood of the room and exhibits your taste for fine patterns and colors.

5. Floor Rug

Floor rugs are one of the must-have elements in the living room to make it look modern. You have to either keep it plain or choose abstract patterns and avoid old designs. You should also make sure that they are minimal so they aren’t the only thing noticeable in the whole room.

If you couldn’t exhibit your taste for patterns and art while choosing those decorative cushion covers, then you can do it while buying wall hangings. Or if you don’t want anything artistic, then you can always hang your family portrait.

You can control the amount of light that enters your living room through the curtains. The colors of the curtains have to be coordinated with the color of your cushions. The patterns on them may or may not match. However, you have to avoid old patterns if you want to obtain a modern look.

If you don’t want to settle for plain single color walls, then you can explore wall designs. Minimalistic and geometrical patterns give modern looks.

You just have to keep in mind that if the colors are too loud and design too complicated, then it will become difficult to match other elements of the living room with it.

It can be anything from incense burners to scented candles to the vase. It can also be indoor plants, that is if it suits the theme. These decorative objects tell a lot about the people who live in the house.

11. Wall Clock

You cannot hang an antique clock if you want to give a modern look to your living room. It has to be either plain or something artistic.

You decide how big you want it to be, depending on how much attention you want the clock to get compared to the rest of the elements in your living room. You can also use a digital clock.

12. Modern TV unit

A television unit reduces the burden of decorating the wall the television is hung too. It also gives you space to keep decorative objects without making it look like you are dumping too many of them in one room.
